The ventilation within your home, specifically your dryer’s vent is just as
important to monitor and service, as your furnace filters. Without proper
ventilation, the life expectancy of your dryer can be drastically cut short.
Ensuring the vent line remains clear is important for the health of your dryer,
but also for the safety of your home. Dryer lint is highly combustible and is
one of the leading causes of house fires.

Roughly 27% of house fires are caused by an accumulation of dryer lint. Lint
is the accumulation of fine textile fibers, various paper fibers, and other
fibers, and is highly combustible. Whether taking care of this clean out
yourself or by us here at Liberty Home Services, it is important to clean out
your dryer vents thoroughly at least once every 12 months.

Most people find cleaning the vents intimidating; however, it is more so time-
consuming than it is difficult. Below I will walk you through how to clean out
your dryer very line and what tools you need.

Tools Needed
– Nut driver or Screwdriver
– Vacuum
– Dryer vent cleaning brush
– Drill

Step #1
– Pull the dryer away from the wall and use the nut driver/screwdriver to
loosen the vent hose connected to the dryer.
– Remove the vent hose from the dryer.
Step #2
– Step outside and remove the vent exhaust cover.
Step #3
– Take the dryer vent cleaning brush and attach it to your drill.
– Hook your vacuum up at the bottom of the vent where it connects to
the dryer.
Step #4
– Turn the vacuum on, then go back outside and run the vent brush
down the dryer vent toward the bottom where the vacuum is.
Step #5
– Vacuum any residual dryer lint and reconnect the hose vent to the
dryer.

Congratulations! You just cleaned your dryer vent and can now sleep easily
knowing your dryer is fully functioning.

With many cold winter months, it is important to make sure you are taking
care of your source of heat in your home. Much like a car’s engine, your
furnace is one of the key engines that helps make your home run.

The way your furnace works is, it pulls air in through an air return passed an
air filter, takes that air and pushes it past the burner assembly (Where
propane or natural gas is combusted) heating the air, then a blower pushes
that heated air into the air ducts in your home, thus heating your home.

The biggest part of keeping your furnace running like a well-oiled machine to
keep your home warm, is the air filter. The air filter keeps all airborne dust,
dander, hair, and other pollutants, out of the furnace components and inner
workings (motor, blower, burner, electrical). By having the wrong furnace
filter in place, you could either not be properly protecting your furnace and
home or you could be placing too much of a strain on your furnace system.
You can find the filter size on the furnace information label inside the front
removable furnace panel.

Your furnace air filter should be changed every 1-3 months depending on the
environment in your home. Hiring Liberty Home Services will take away the
concern of whether you have the correct filter, and the hassle of having to
remember to change out your furnace filter. We also take off the front
furnace panel and vacuum and dust out any debris that may have found its
way into the control board housing. Hire Liberty Home Services so you can
continue to have the warm fuzzy feeling in your home

So, you didn’t know your home needed so much attention? Well, I am here to tell you about the ins and outs of items that will need attending to over the course of the year. Before moving into your new home, the work is already under way from all the paperwork and personal funding chaos but, don’t forget the real work is about to begin. Before actively moving into your home with all your things and making your new house a home, it’s wise to do a full in depth walk through to get to know your new space without all your personal items in the way.

From the time you close on your home, it is important to get to know your home and all its intricacies. It’s a good idea to come up with a checklist of items that your home will need on a monthly, quarterly, and even yearly basis. See our free home checklist template, so you can get a head start on your home’s personal checklist!

Getting familiar with many items such as the furnace/heating system, find the fuse box, water heater, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fridge water filter system, dishwasher, AC or evaporative cooler system, fireplace, sprinklers, and many others.

With a proper detailed list created, it can make this vast number of items easier to monitor and take care of so your home can remain in great shape for all your great memories to be made.

By hiring Liberty Home Services, we can take care of recording and maintaining all the household items for you, so you can stick to enjoying friends and family instead of “enjoying” home maintenance and chores!
